We’ve walked past Wasabi Bistro countless times, which is tucked away inside the Hotel Breaker‘s complex. It’s right across from that famous tonkatsu spot, Ginza Bairin, where we often have lunch. It’s funny how you can live so close to something and not try it out, right? Well, recently, we finally decided to see what all the fuss was about, and let me tell you, it completely blew us away. It wasn’t just a meal; it was like we’d stumbled upon our new go-to spot in Honolulu, especially since it’s so convenient staying in Waikiki Beach.
From our hotel, Lagoon Tower by Hilton, it takes about 16 minutes on food, but we usually walk on beach with nice ocean breath to the restaurant. The restaurant is on the Beach Walk street where you can find various restaurants and shops. I recommend you get there early and walk on the Beach Walk and Lewers streets before the delicious dinner at Wasabi Bistro.
Wasabi Bistro isn’t just another restaurant; it’s a staple for both locals and tourists, buzzing with an alluring charm that you can feel the moment you step in. Since its opening back in ’92, it’s blossomed into this awesome gathering place where friends and families come together. It’s got this out-house theme that somehow brings Japan right to your table—it’s authentic, it’s cozy, and it’s a whole vibe.
Walking into Wasabi Bistro, it’s like entering a new world where casual meets classy. You know how some places just have that feel? The decor’s got all these cool Japanese artifacts and art pieces that create an intimate yet elegant setting. Whether you snag a cozy corner for date night or belly up to the sushi bar, you’re in for a treat. The sushi bar, by the way, is where the magic happens. Watching the chef do his thing—crafting nigiri, slicing up tuna, or prepping soft-shell crabs—is honestly half the fun. It’s not just dinner; it’s a show.
We found their menu to be the greatest hit of Japanese izakaya-style dining. We’re talking fresh sashimi that melts in your mouth, skewered yakitori that’s bursting with flavor, and so much more. Every time we go, we try something different, and it’s always a hit. After a day of lounging or walking around Waikiki Beach, there’s nothing better than kicking back here. Check out the article, A Food Lover’s Guide to Izakaya Menu, for our recommendation of what to order.
Oh, and you’ve got to dive into their drinks menu—whether you’re in the mood for a crisp chardonnay, a cold beer, or sake, they’ve got you covered. We were surprised to see some rare sake we don’t find often in the US. The staff there are super helpful too, always ready to recommend something good if you’re not sure what to get. They really make the whole experience even better, if that’s possible.
What’s crazy is the value you get—it’s super reasonable, especially for the quality and authenticity of the food. Plus, the place itself is just so welcoming and nicely decorated that you feel right at home. It’s no wonder Wasabi Bistro has racked up a solid 4.6 rating on Google; people genuinely love it.
I can’t recommend Wasabi Bistro Hawaii enough. Whether you’re a die-hard fan of Japanese cuisine or just looking to try something new, this place is a must. It’s more than just eating out; it’s about experiencing those flavors that stick with you, making you want to come back again and again. Trust me, once you go, you’ll be planning your next visit before you’ve even left.
