Enryaku-ji is a magnificent temple complex located on the summit of Mount Hiei in the Shiga prefecture of Japan and has been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Founded in 788 by the monk Saicho, Enryakuji is one of the most important and influential temples in Japanese history. The temple complex is divided into three main areas: Todo, Saito, and Yokawa. Enryaku-ji is renowned for its historical significance as a center of Buddhist learning and scholarship. The temple played a significant role in the development of the Tendai school of Buddhism and has been the site of numerous historical events throughout its history.
