Our adventures in Sapporo have been some of the most memorable trips we’ve taken, whether under the crisp sun of summer or amidst the sparkling snows of winter. The city’s charm really shines no matter the season, making every visit uniquely delightful.
During our visits, we made sure to hit the iconic spots like the old Clock Tower, which felt like stepping back in time, and the Sapporo TV Tower, where views over the bustling cityscape took our breath away. And let’s not forget the time we caught the Super Bowl at Jersey Cafe, surrounded by sports memorabilia and fellow enthusiasts—it was like a slice of the US in Japan!
Sapporo is truly a vibrant city nestled in Japan’s Hokkaido region, brimming with cultural festivities and culinary delights. One event that stands out is the Yuki Matsuri, or Snow Festival, held every February. We walked among the spectacular snow and ice sculptures that light up at night, transforming the city into a winter wonderland. It’s a sight I recommend to anyone visiting during the festival—it’s simply magical.
Food, of course, plays a central role in any trip to Sapporo. The city’s reputation for succulent seafood is well deserved. We dived into dishes of the freshest crabs and were amazed by the culinary expertise at places like Maru Sushi—a Michelin-starred spot where the sushi is nothing short of sublime. Opting for the chef’s omakase menu was a decision we’ll never regret, each bite was a taste of heaven.
Another gem is Hanakoji Sawada, where traditional Japanese kaiseki cuisine is brought to life with an artistic touch. Dining here felt like an intimate gathering, where each dish served was a piece of art and the service was impeccably attentive. For any food lover, the chef’s tasting menu is a journey through the season’s finest offerings, something you really have to experience.
But Sapporo isn’t just about food and festivals. The city boasts beautiful parks like Odori Park and Nakajima Park, ideal for leisurely strolls or peaceful picnics. We also loved exploring the Sapporo Beer Museum, which provided an insightful peek into the rich history of beer in Japan.
Every trip to Sapporo has left us with a trove of memories and a longing to return. The combination of its festive atmosphere, exquisite dining, and serene landscapes makes it an enchanting destination that we just can’t get enough of.
